About Us
The Drill Hall (more commonly known as the "Village Hall") in Quebec, County Durham, was opened in 1899.
During the Great Depression of the 1930s the hall was adopted and supported by Seven Oaks village in Kent. Life was hard in mining communities as most jobs were connected to mining in some way or other.
In some more affluent areas of England people got together to give help to these depressed areas.
As with other adopted places the help they were given was food, clothing and blankets. Sometimes a small committee of people would travel to Quebec to make sure the help they were giving was the right help. This created a good feeling between the two communities. The drill hall was renamed as Sevenoaks Hall. The name was kept till 1976 when the hall became gift aided and it changed its name to Quebec and District Village Hall.
In 2021 the hall had a major refurbishment with improvements being made to the main hall and a bar added. There was also changes to the toilets making the hall more accessible to all.
The hall is run by a group of volunteer trustees and available for hire for a range of events.
